Describe the process(es)/method(s)/thought process to predict product(s) if reactant(s) are known.

  1. The number of elements and or compounds reacting is a good indicator of possible reaction type and thus possible products. For example, in a synthesis reaction two or more reactants combine to form a single product.

  2. The number of elements & or compounds is a good indicator of possible reaction type. For example,In a complete combustion reaction, a compound reacts with an oxidizing element, such as oxygen or fluorine, and the products are compounds of each element in the fuel with the oxidizing element.

  3. Like Haylee says the number and type of reactants to begin with can give you a good prediction as to what type of product(s) you'll end with. For example combustion reactions always involve CO2.

  4. Does combustion always yields carbon dioxide? What about reaction between sulfur and oxygen, what products we can predict from these reactants? What type of reaction this is?

The number of compounds and elements reacting is a good inicator of possible reaction type and products if the reactants are known. For example the synthesis reaction, two reactants combine to form a product. H2+O->H2O
Then the decompostion reaction is the oppisite of the synthesis.

The number of elements and/or compound is great indicatior type. For example single replacement reaction where one element replaces another in a compound. An example of single replacement reaction is Zn + 2HCl ---> ZnCl2 + H2

  9. An easy way to predict the products would be to determine the type of reaction based on the reactants. E.g. a pure element combined with an ionic compound would most likely result in a single-replacement reaction, then from there, you predict the product.
